Ride the Genting Skyway
To accommodate the growing number of guests to our resort and in making travel more convenient, the Genting Skyway was introduced. Despite the opening of Genting Skyway in 1997, Awana Skyway is still being used to transport passengers when the cable lines shift operations at midnight, or when the Genting Skyway is closed for maintenance.

Officially opened by the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on 21 February 1997, the 3.4 km mono cable car system is the longest in Southeast Asia and one of the fastest in the world, with a maximum speed of 21.6 km per hour or 6 metres per second. The system is able to transport passengers from the township of Gohtong Jaya to the hilltop in just 11 minutes. It has a capacity of 2,400 persons per hour each way with 8 passengers per gondola.

The Genting skyway was constructed at a cost of RM128 million by Leitner Spa, Italy. The computerised system of the Genting Skyway will also prompt the cable car to stop to adjust to the surrounding weather. It can also reduce speed or stop for the elderly and disbled for our Skyway personnel to assist them in boarding the gondola.

The entire system with high-tech electronic equipment was built in accordance with stringent Swiss regulations and it has a double safety circuit completely independent and absolutely fault safe.

Safety of passengers is paramount. Thus, upgrading works were carried out in 2002 at a cost of RM2 million. The main focus of the upgrading works was the replacement of the cable ropes of which the gondolas or cable cars hung from, to glide up and down the skyway. The engineers from Italy ensured works were adhered to Swiss International Standards and supervised the preventive maintenance activities.

Genting Skyway also undergoes periodic maintenance checks. During the maintenance period, visitors will use Awana Skyway, the earlier built cable car.
